Hello! My name is Meg and I am the writer behind The Traditional Homestead, find out who I am, what I am passionate about, and what has inspired me!
Life
I am a mother of two from Massachusetts. I am passionate about maintaining and growing out one-and-a-half acre homestead and making the best use of our resources and land. I greatly enjoy raising livestock, tending a garden, baking and cooking for my family, cutting out unnecessary chemicals, and sharing my journey with others.
Background
My roots grow extremely deep here, I am able to trace my ancestors back to New England colonial times. This is one of the main reasons that I have always been so passionate about the study of history. It continues to fascinating to me how other people lived before us.
Getting a thorough academic education was the main focus of most of my adult life, cumulating in a Master of History degree. Still, reading about the past has done little to quench my thirst for true understanding. In 2020 I was driven to learn some of the traditional skills of my rural New England ancestors. An experiment has led me to change my entire life for the better and more wholly than just for the sake of an experiment.
I seek to understand by living, I seek to learn with my hands, I seek to share with my words.
It has become clear to me just how resourceful, strong, and talented our ancestors from across the globe were. I want to honor them by continuing on the traditional lifestyle (as much as possible), in the twenty-first century.
Goals & Aspirations
Each year I hope to grow my homestead within our acre-and-a-half plot. I hope to learn about various types of livestock, become a better gardener, and create a more traditional life for my children.
With this growth I aspire to inspire new homesteaders by sharing triumphs and failures, ideas and projects. You can expect down-to-earth blogs that are written with your questions in mind.
